Mysterious ways

[NOTE: This post was written several weeks ago by Bob.  He is still recovering from his recent heart problems, and this post is being posted on his behalf]

God works in mysterious ways. This sentence is said plenty of times especially when some one escaped what could of been a fatal accident.

The reason I’m writing about this, is because of a little incident that happen to me while going down to the basement this morning.

Ever since my knees were operated on for torn cartilage, my left leg for some reason or other without any warning, gives out on me and it happen to me going down these stairs this morning. Luckily my reflects were fast enough that I grabbed the banister and hung there like a monkey till the strength came back to my leg.

This started me thinking of all the times that I’ve been saved mysteriously and that started when I was a snotty little kid.

Out in the country on a winter day I was sliding on the road in front of the house between two hills while I was going down one hill this car coming from the opposite direction came over the next hill and there was no way that I could get out of its way because it was all ice but for some reason the driver of that car managed to drive or slide his car into the snow bank.

Later as I got old enough to go to work, my uncle had a contract to demolish old houses and I went to work for him. On this house someone had started to demolish it but did not finish the job.  So my uncle got the job. I was working on this house, but whoever had started to demolish just took out and the inside walls and the second floor which left the plumbing in the open and it was cast iron pipes.

I was downstairs banging on the walls to take them out when all of a sudden one of the elbows from upstairs broke away and landed on my head and actually broke my scalp (now I have an indentation of about ¼"). At the hospital the Dr. Said if it would have been about another inch more to the front it would have been fatal.

Recently coming back from the store on my bike during rush hour on Monclair street, a tractor trailer flatbed pulled beside me and the trailer and I were side by side for quite a while.  Sometimes we were no more than 5 to 6 inches away from each other. Here I was trying to keep my balance from dodging the pot holes and in my mind I could see those wheels an getting run over by them.

I know I’ll have to go some day and I was sure that my day had come. I realize now that we have protection from above and we are well protected. When I hear some one say God works in mysterious ways, I will say it’s the best protection a person can have. I really believe with all the things that happened to me in the past without God’s protection I would not be here today. I feel sorry for the non-believers because the day will come that they will find out that there is a God but then it will be to late. I always say to each to his/her own belief, but they really should think about it.

That’s my rant for the day.
