More on garbage in our food

Related problems.

The "yoga mat" chemical azodicarbonamide has been banned in the U.K. because of a risk that it causes cancer. Let’s face it, a chemical that is used to make shoe soles and yoga mats cannot be good for the 500 foods that it’s used in. I’m beginning to think that instead of eating food made for humans we should start eating animal food. It might just be safer than the food produced for human consumption.

I guess the producers of the foods that we eat, are not deterred by the damage that some of these chemicals can do to a person’s health. Just as long as it looks good, and tastes good, and sells well. Money is clearly the first thing on their minds. We can’t even trust the meat that we eat because of what’s given to animals to make them fatter. Cows are given things to produce more milk and chickens to lay more eggs. Then things are taken out of the milk and added to it. Margarine was supposed to be for animals and it ended up being for human consumption. Then there's all the salt that is in our food, and this garbage aspartame and whatever else. Our food just doesn't seem safe or natural at all.

They say sugar is no good for you so they come out with aspartame. It seems to be more dangerous than sugar. These so call scientists that I’ve blogged about add to the confusion. One group claims that if you’re a tall person your IQ would be higher than a short person an also if you are old age you tend to be a grouchy person. No wonder this world has gone to the dogs with some of these stupid things that people of 'intelligence' will say just to be mentioned on the news or to be paid for it.

Let me add one last point. Thee is a lot of conspiracy theory about the government and agri-business. Much of it is crazy talk, but just because that is the case it doesn't mean there are some elements of truth or at least concern in what the government allows the food industry to get away with. These people might have vivid imaginations but I would say that it doesn't mean they don't have some valid concerns about real issues. Food safety is something fundamentally important to everyone.

Giant agribusiness companies are slowly and quietly spreading their scientifically altered seeds to so many farms that nearly half of all foods on supermarket shelves now contain some ingredient that has had its DNA tampered with by science.

Well I guess I’m finished because I’m a grouchy old man and not tall enough to have a high IQ. I didn’t know I was in that bad of a shape but at 79 years old I finally found out what some of these so called scientists think about people like me.

No one knows the truth about food

No one knows the truth, the whole truth, about what is done to the food that we ingest every day. This is the same for the producers of pharmaceutical products. Some of it is known but not all of it. Not enough of it is known.

In today’s world, no one can be believed when they talk about the product's they are selling. That's because business is business and to them it doesn't matter what is added to some of their products, just as long as they taste or look good and they can’t be sued for the garbage that was added. That's the extent to which a business cares about what it makes. Health-wise, who cares? Just as long as the customer likes it, and buys it, the side effects only matter so long as they don't get in trouble for it. So businesses add things - preservatives, colouring, other additives, all in the name of cost, convenience or appeal. Maximizing the money that can be made out of selling them is the main purpose of the business.

Now I`m not saying that businesses making money is wrong, but to expect them to care about your health is just not realistic. Not unless it becomes financially important for them to do so.

Now here come the dietitians. They tell you what is good for you and what you should eat.  They tell you  to watch out for certain kinds of fat and this and that, and it never ends.  It would be impossible to eat  exactly what you’re told to eat as a diet.  Even if it were possible, what is considered good  changes every time a new study comes out.  Imagine how much food you would waste trying to keep up with that ever-changing list of do`s and don`ts.  These dietitians might have good intentions in telling us what and what not to eat to have good health, but at the same time, they should be a little more focused.  They should try to find out exactly what has been added or taken out of certain foods before advising people on what to eat and what not to eat. Try and find out what kind of pesticides were used on some certain fruits and vegetables, because some of them are porous and will absorb pesticides which you can’t wash off.

I don`t have an answer on a perfect solution, but I do have my rant of the day about something that needs fixing.

Hardcore Pawn

There's a shown on TV called Hardcore Pawn (I'm not sure what network or channel it might be in your area).  By way of background, here's the show's description as it is on TruTV:

At the largest pawnshop in Detroit, every day brings new rewards and new drama. Follow the Gold family as they wheel and deal with colorful customers, manage temperamental employees, and squabble with each otherall in the name of making a buck in one of the most troubled cities in America. This isn't your typical trading post; this is Hardcore Pawn.

Since I have started watching this program, I have developed a fairly song opinion about it. You probably have already realized that or else it wouldn't be here on my Rants blog. The show is supposedly a reality show. I'm not naïve enough to think that it is entirely unscripted, but there is probably some basis in reality and a certain percentage of that show is real or re-enactments of real life events. Regardless of whether it is fictional or real, it doesn’t alter my opinion as to the message that is being sent to weak minded kids that are employed by their parents in whatever business that they own.

On this program, the daughter Ashley and the son Seth have no respect for their father whatsoever. Whatever the father says or does, those two don’t seem to agree with him.

Seth the son thinks that he knows more about the business than his dad does. That's a bad message to send to any child that might happen to watch this program. Disrespecting elders, and even worse your parents, is a bad message to be sending to society. It's the type of thing that contributes to moral decay.

Ashley the daughter, is another story. It’s easy to see that she is not the type of person that should be in a position to be dealing with the public. She doesn’t seem to have any idea of what public relations are all about.

Ashley cannot control her emotions and shows this when she is dealing with a difficult customer. Also at times, she and her brother do not hesitate to start arguing in front of a customer. Again this is a bad message to be sending to children and to society as a whole. Civility is important and something society has been losing year after year. This show does not help in that regard.

The episode I watched last night showed a customer coming in and going to the window to get served. It happened to be Ashley’s window and this customer happened to have a baseball that had been signed by some baseball players on some team. I'd tell you which players but since I don't follow baseball, I don't recall who it might have been.

Ashley took the ball and of course the dealing started about the price. Seth, being close to that window, went over and told Ashley that she didn’t know anything about baseball and it seemed that he wanted to make the deal himself. After listening to those two arguing, the customer decided to take his ball and left the store saying that he thought he was dealing with professionals but that he was mistaken and that he was leaving and never coming back.

To my way of thinking if the producer of this series thought he was making role models with Seth and Ashley for kids that are working in a family business, I would say that he sure missed it. I couldn’t think of a better way of losing all customers than people acting this way in a business setting.

That is my rant for today.

 

Something is wrong here.

Something is definitely wrong here, unless my thinking is way off base. According to the news I have been reading in regards to Obamacare, a lot of jobs will be lost. Now I read that they want to boost the minimum wage. That would be more money for the employers to pay out. Between Obamacare, and the extras that these employers will have to put out, do you think that is encouraging the employers to keep all their employees on full time jobs? 

 If the employers of big businesses have to reduce the amount of employees they have, because of these two reasons, how many workers would be without a job?  Let me give you an example.  What about these take out places? Could they really afford to pay more than what they are paying now? Of course not.  They are businesses with slim profit margins after their expenses are all paid. So the only recourse for them would be for them to raise the price of their product, if they want to keep their employees. This would be the same for all businesses.

Now what do we get as a result? A lot of loss jobs. More people collecting unemployment benefits and more on welfare and food stamps. What I would like to know is this; how can anyone think that this type of  approach prop up the economy?

Fine print

My beef today, is with businesses that send out applications to consumers to become a customer but with a contract and if you agree to become one, then they will send you the contract papers. There’s where the fun begins.

Business

I get a kick out of some of  businesses.  Some will overprice their product and once they see that their sales are falling, then they put on a big sale at a reduce price. The price that they reduce it to is the price that they should have sold it for in the first place. They still make a profit.  Then some businesses say that they pay the taxes and that is another lie. The prices were already boosted to include the taxes. I say this because any business person will not sell anything without making a profit or else they would not be in business too long.

I guess they take people for suckers and a lot of people clearly are.
